Hi there i'm new to the forum i decided to join so i could talk to someone who may understand what i'm going through.
I've feel like i've suffered with depression and anxiety for years! I was told i had post natal depression after my third child and it certainly took a long time before i felt myself (whoever that is). I've had counselling for my depression and for my anxiety and it all works for a while but i still notice that my overwhelming feelings of inadequacy, hopelessness, my anxiety, intense fatigue and what i can only describe as "itchy" brain return. During this time i want to hide at home or run away!
I stumbled on a web site about pmdd whilst looking for help AGAIN! About my feelings! It all made sense! I experience these feelings for the 2 weeeks leading up to my period and for a few days after, not usually during then when it passes i have zest for life, energy, hopes, dreams and happiness! If it was depression i couldn't turn it off like that could i? I was beginning to think i was bi polar???
Am attempting to change my diet from things i've read this could help?? I'm not usually good at diets but if it works??
Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Hi Belle,

It certainly sounds like something cyclical is going on and the best way to see this clearly is to chart your symptoms. NAPS has a great menstrual chart here http://www.pms.org.uk/support/menstrualdiary

Andi info about talking with your doctor here http://www.pms.org.uk/support/gettingth ... yourdoctor

Also lots of info on the website about changing diet etc so well worth a look around NAPS website.

Hope this helps and you find some relief from dietary changes. x

Thank you so much. It's so hard because the general opinion is usually it's only your period and you have to just get on with it but some months it is so hard to "just get on with it" :(
Just last month i faked being ill at work so i could leave because i just couldn't cope with people around me the walls were closing in on me and i cried everytime i went to the toilet! , politics at work are difficult most times but during those weeks i cannot bear it.
I'm already keeping a journal to try to chart any proof to myself or my GP. The main issue with my GP i feel is that they put the "blame" for any symptoms i feel down to depression or anxiety and then want to give me Beta blockers or anti depressants. I realise I may eventually need medication to help but i'd rather explore other avenues first i'm not a big tablet taker it worries me!! )
Will certainly have a look around the website, already had a quick browse around so will look more in depth. Thanks xxx

Hi Belle,

It all sounds very painfully familiar and you are most certainly not alone!
I've realised now that I've had PMDD, in varying degrees, since the age of 12/13 but it was named depression or social anxiety for a very long time. It was only after my first was born nearly 8 years ago that I was told about it by a health visitor and it all started to fall into place. After my 2nd son nearly 5 years ago I actually felt better (my life was at its most stable which probably helped!) and I even started to call it PMS again because I was coping so well. After baby number 3 last July though its back with vengence and seems to be getting worse every month. I thought it was PND at first but its definitely cyclical. I've just returned to work and prior to baby number 3 I never really had any sick days, but trying to work this last few weeks has taken literally everything I've had.

I highly reccomend the charts as a way to keep track of symptoms as they will otherwise want to think about bipolar as well (the two are so very similar sometimes!!).

Hi I occasionally look on this site as I found It helps to know your not alone. I suffered withPMDD for 20 years, worse after my daughter was born. I researched on line and found this site and went to my doctor and asked to be refered to a specialist. I have just had a hysterectomy and oophrectomy and i felt better as soon as I came around from the opp. I haven't looked back I feel calm, in control and normal :D I would reccommend the procedure as without having it done I may have done something stupid because the deppression was crippling.

Belle40,

How are you getting on? Did you chart your symptoms and see a pattern? Was your GP helpful when you went back to see them?

It would be good to hear how you're doing. x
