Sorry if I've already started this thread somewhere else, I couldn't find it.
I've been keeping a calendar of my moods for the past year, and while there is a pattern relating to my cycle (severe low moods occur anywhere between day 14 and day 5), there is another pattern relating to stress. If I'm very busy at work or with too much socialising, and if I haven't had time to look after myself, I'm much more likely to feel blue. I also noticed that my blue days tend to be Saturdays - I think all the stresses of work (rush hour traffic, trains, deadlines, meetings, emails, phone calls etc etc!) build up during the week then explode at the weekend. Perhaps most tellingly of all, the last two times I've taken a fortnight off as holiday I haven't had any low mood.
It seems to me that stress + hormones is the toxic combination - I don't want to get rid of my hormones by stopping ovulation, so I'm going to try to get rid of my stress by:
1. Exercising for 30 minutes a day.
2. Meditating for 20 minutes a day and practicing 'mindfulness' whenever I remember!
3. Doing a stress management evening class.
4. Working from home one day a week.
5. Making 9pm onwards on weeknights 'me-time'.
I'll let you know how I get on this month, and if anyone else has any stories of PMS and stress please let me know!
